Introduction to Generative AI and Its Productization with Dr. HyunJoon Jung

This talk provides an overview of generative AI, exploring its foundational principles, capabilities, and the underlying technologies that drive it. We will discuss how generative models, such as GPT and diffusion models, create new content and how they are trained using large datasets. The session will also cover the practical aspects of productizing generative AI, including strategies for integrating these technologies into products and services, best practices for deployment, and ethical considerations to ensure responsible use. By the end of the talk, attendees will have a comprehensive understanding of the generative AI landscape and the potential for building innovative solutions with it.
Bio: Dr. HyunJoon Jung is a seasoned leader and expert in machine learning and artificial intelligence in various domains, including creative assistant, search and recommendation, computer vision, health, and finance. He has extensive experience in both industry and academic domains in computer science and information science. He received his Ph.D. in Computer / Information Science from the University of Texas at Austin and his B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science from Korea University and Seoul National University, respectively. He is now in charge of leading the ART AI Lab as a Director of Applied Research at Adobe, leading the innovation of Multi – modal Large Language Models, Image Understanding, and Image Editing models to empower various digital imaging products such as Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. He previously worked on various ML products and applied research domains across Amazon, Nike, Apple, Microsoft, and Indeed. He has also been involved in community activities in both academia and industry.
Art Education for a Sustainable Planet: Embracing Ecopedagogy in K-12 Classrooms with Dr. Joy G. Bertling

In this presentation, Bertling makes that case that ecopedagogy and eco-art can transform and enrich art education—working toward a more just and sustainable planet. Weaving together contemporary eco-artworks, environmental philosophy, and art education methods, Bertling introduces seven fresh curricular strands.
Bio: Dr. Joy G. Bertling is an associate professor of art education at the University of Tennessee. Her research engages with critical place – based art education and other arts – based ecopedagogies including the ways in which they can intersect with data visualization practices. Last year, her book Art Education for a Sustainable Planet: Embracing Ecopedagogy in K – 12 Classrooms was published with Teachers College Press. She has published articles in various peer – reviewed journals including Studies in Art Education, Art Education, and Environmental Education Research. In recent years, Joy has founded and chaired the National Art Education Association’s Ecology and Environment Interest Group and chaired the American Educational Research Association’s Arts and Learning Special Interest Group. In 2022, she was named the National Art Education Association Southeastern Region’s Higher Education Art Educator of the Year. She currently directs the Arts – Based DataVisualization Project, a project funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
